Asher and Archer was launched in January 2021 and founded by Anneliese Bridgman. Anneliese is an Australian fashion designer passionate about sustainable fashion. Early in her career as a new fashion graduate, she had the opportunity to work and live in Paris, France.
Through an internship with Australian born designer Martin Grant, she immersed herself in the world of fashion icons of the 20th century; Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy to name a few.
Upon returning to Australia, she became inspired by traditional couture dressmaking techniques, and how these could be incorporated into contemporary design.
Her designs have been featured as part of Australian Fashion Week, New York Bridal Fashion Week and Melbourne Fashion Week on multiple occasions.
Anneliese on why she started Asher and Archer.
After 20+ years of working within the fashion industry, I wondered if my avocation had become something mechanical and consuming. Through musings with like-minded people, and thoughts to reconcile the negative impacts of the fashion industry, I decided to start my own business.
Since Asher and Archer’s launch I have been creating awareness around sustainable and ethical fashion practices and the impact of consumer choices. I feel working in an industry which contributes more to climate change than the international aviation and shipping combined, it is my responsibility to practice and educate others on how we can do things differently.
Buying from independent designers creates a relationship with the things you wear and builds your connection with how they are made.
